Online Driver Education Courses

We are excited to offer Online Driver Education Courses to all our students!

The 30-hour Online Driver Education Course meets state requirements for licensure and is a pre-requisite for the Behind the Wheel Course and the Adult Waiver Program. (this course is equivalent to the course offered by public schools during Health/PE 10.)

The course consists of at least 30 hours of instruction including components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety, handicapped parking, fuel-efficient driving practices, motorcycle awareness, and organ and tissue donation awareness.

Students under the age of 18, living in the following counties must also take 90-minute Partners for Safe Teen Driving Parent/Teen Presentation.

Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William, and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park.

If you are taking the 30-hour course online with us, the 90-minute Presentation is included. When you make your appointment to take the test with us we will also take care of the 90-minute PSTD presentation

Course Requirements

 

You must be at least 15 years old to take the online driver education course.

 

The final exam must be administered by a licensed instructor with  Street SMART Driving Academy. Home-schooled students are exempt from this requirement.

 

Access to the exam requires 30 hrs of time spent in the course.

 

PLEASE NOTE: You must complete your course within 6 months (180 days) from the date of your registration. Failure to complete your course within this period of time will result in the de-activation of your account. If your account is de-activated, you will not be eligible for a refund. You will be able to pay a renewal fee to reactivate your account and continue the course.

Bring with you to exam:
1. Proof of completion of the online course (Available at end of course, select print when you see Access Code box)

2. A completed "Parental Consent for Online Driver Education Examination" (DTS 62)

SSDA is an approved provider of these courses. These online driver's education courses are offered by DriverEdToGo.com and satisfy Virginia's minimum permit and licensing requirements.
